The Rays are working hard to acquire Kurt Suzuki from the Athletics. However, Oakland isn't crazy about getting Wade Davis or Jeff Niemann in return. As one National League general manager pointed out, "The Davises and Niemanns are the type of pitchers that Billy [Beane] winds up trading. He wants a higher grade of pitcher."

The Phillies will be without Chase Utley for an undetermined period of time because of issues with both knees. Utley announced on Sunday that he will begin the season on the disabled list, but he intends to play in 2012. The Phillies have interest in Yankees utilityman Ramiro Pena to help fill the void.

The Orioles are believed to be shopping Kevin Gregg and Mark Reynolds. Gregg had a 4.37 ERA in 63 relief appearances for Baltimore last season. In his first season with the Orioles, Reynolds hit .221 with 37 home runs and 86 RBI. He posted an OPS of .323 and has struck out 200 times in three of the last four seasons.
